Hi. My name is Kevin Donner and I am the group leader for JEMS. I started this youth group in 2022 as a way to give my own children and their Jewish peers more opportunities to form deeper connections with one another, as well as a way for them to grow and strengthen their own sense of Jewish community.
One foundational component that guided the creation of this youth group is the "big tent" mentality. JEMS is open to ANY Jewish middle schooler regardless of affiliation. As Jewish community leaders, I believe we all need to do more to break down the barriers and separations that divide us as a people.
My family and I are active and proud members of Congregation Beth Israel in Bellingham, Washington, where I was honored to be the 2024 recipient of the Eternal Light Leadership Award for my years of volunteerism for the community.
